When I was in around third grade, I got bullied at camp, and I will never forget it. The camp I went to was a four day camp, we went on wednesday afternoon and went home on sunday. There were some girls in my group who were complete jerks. They made fun of me all week and were calling me fat and ugly and stuff. One night we came back to our cabin and we were changing, and I had went into the bathroom stall to put my pajamas on. The skirt I had been wearing was one that zipped down the front, and I had already changed my shirt and was about to put my pj’s pants on, and my skirt was unzipped, then the girls busted into my bathroom stall. They like broke the door open. When they did that, I instantly turned around facing the toilet because my skirt was completely undone. Then they started calling me a man, saying I was peeing like a boy. They taunted me with that for the rest of the week. I have a stuffed animal bunny that I sleep with, and I have slept with it since I was four months old. My parents divorced when I was really small, and had joint custody. My dad was abusive, and I wasn’t allowed to take my bunny to his house because he would take it from me. So by third grade, I was still sleeping with it. Those girls took it from me and tried to flush it down the toilet to be mean. Then the last full day, they pinned me against the wall and were beating me up.
People are jerks. :(
Hey guys! I have an important announcement to make. My friend and I have started an anti-bullying organization called SPABS that is dedicated to the prevention of bullying both cyber and offline, and teen suicide.
SPABS’ most recent project is called “Walk a Mile” and is based on the expression “walk a mile in someone else’s shoes,” which you have no doubt heard before.
Everyone has a story, and even if you know someone for a while, you still don’t know the whole person. There are a lot of things in a person’s life that are hidden, things that are secrets. There are many things about a person that are unseen by everyone else. And, it seems when people come out and those secrets are exposed, they are torn apart for it. Bullying can be a very life-changing thing, and can even be fatal, and that’s why SPABS is doing this Walk a Mile project.
The Walk a Mile project, we want to do Story Shoes. When you do a Story Shoe, you are basically telling your story in written form without having to tell all of the details. Almost everyone has an old shoe lying around in their home. To do your story shoe, you get an old shoe and write things on it with sharpie, and then send us a picture of it (once we get our Tumblr up and running, you can just submit it.) You do not have to go into details to do this. On one Story Shoe that a girl did, it said “I’ve been labeled as a slut and a whore.. but I was raped at age 12.” Story Shoes can impact you in many ways. You can have very little or a lot on your shoe, it doesn’t matter. It’s your life! If you wish for your Story Shoe to be anonymous, you may send it as a link to our email SPABSorg@gmail.com and we will then post it it without giving a name! Please feel free to use this system.
We need as many people ahead of time to start doing some Story Shoes. Here’s what they look like, but remember you can put whatever you want on your Story Shoe!
This is where I draw the line.
So many people around you battle many things that you sometimes have no clue about, hidden things. Think about it before you say stuff to people because that could be the last straw for them.
Change this world, don’t let it change you!
oh my gosh i cried when i read this.
Please tell me I am not the only one that thinks stuff like this is wrong.
*And I didn’t even do anything to them to make them say leave me alone either.
Don’t let anyone else’s words or opinions define you!!
